Every photo and video your phone takes carries the date it was captured, written inside the file. Drop some in and see what yours still have — including work from years ago.

About the two dates. “Captured” is read from metadata inside the file itself. It was written by the device that made it, and it is not verified by Provenance — anyone can edit that field with free software. “Recorded by Provenance” is the line only an account can fill in: the moment we received the file and computed its hash.
The pair is worth more than either half. Because the capture date sits inside the bytes we hash, we can show it hasn’t changed since we received the file. That doesn’t prove when the photo was taken — it proves nobody altered the claim afterwards.
Your files can say when they were made. What they can’t say is that you had them — and that nothing changed since. That’s the part Provenance adds, and it starts the day you sign up, so the sooner you begin the more of your work it covers.
