Etsy Creativity Standards · In force since June 2025

Keep the record of your own work, without the scramble.

Etsy now asks sellers using a Cricut, laser cutter, or sublimation printer to show their designs are their own. Provenance timestamps and hashes your evidence automatically, the moment you upload it, so it's already there if you're ever asked.

No credit card to start. $12/mo or $99/yr after your trial.

What changed

Computerized tools now need proof of original design.

Since June 2025, Etsy's Creativity Standards have required that items made with a Cricut, laser cutter, sublimation printer, or similar tool be based on your own original design. Purchased templates and pattern bundles no longer qualify on their own — and a commercial licence is not the same thing as an original design.

Sellers who cannot show their process risk having listings flagged or removed, often with little warning.

Widely circulated articles date this rule to August 2026. They are wrong — that was a separate policy about prohibited items. See our full breakdown of Etsy's 2026 seller rules, with every effective date checked against Etsy's own pages.

Provenance does not represent Etsy and does not determine the outcome of any appeal or review. It keeps the record so you have it when you need it.

How it works

Three steps, no extra habit to build.

01

Upload as you create

Add design drafts, source files, or photos of your process while you work. From your phone or your desktop, whichever is closer.

02

Timestamped and hashed automatically

Every file gets a timestamp and a SHA-256 hash the moment it lands, a fingerprint of exactly what existed and when.

03

Generate an Originality Packet

When you need it, export a clean record of your evidence, ready to attach to an appeal or keep for your own files.

What's included

One focus: keeping your evidence honest.

Automatic timestamping

Every upload is recorded the moment it arrives. No manual logging, no forgetting to save proof.

SHA-256 hashing

A tamper-evident fingerprint of each file's exact contents at the moment it was recorded.

Private by default

Files are stored privately and only ever accessed through short-lived signed links. Nothing is public.

Notes and process tags

Mark each file as a sketch, a cut file, or a finished piece, with a short note if it helps you remember why it matters.

Originality Packet export

A plain, readable PDF of your evidence for a design, ready to attach to an appeal.

Works from your phone

Log evidence with your camera the moment you make something, without waiting until you're back at a desk.

Questions

Before you start

Does Provenance guarantee my appeal will be approved?

No. Provenance documents when your files existed, nothing more. Etsy makes its own decisions on appeals and listing reviews. Provenance is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Etsy, Inc.

Is my data private?

Yes. Files are stored privately and only ever opened through short-lived signed links generated for you. Nothing you upload is public by default.

What can I upload?

Design drafts, source files, cut files, photos of your process, and finished pieces. Most common file and image types are supported, up to 25 MB per file.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Monthly and annual plans can both be cancelled from your account whenever you'd like.
